On February 21, Futian Port officially introduced the Wooask Translation Device, a cutting-edge tool capable of real-time translation across 144 languages, providing efficient and seamless communication support for international travelers and commuters between Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

During an on-site visit to Futian Port’s Consultation Desk No. 11, a Shenzhen Evening News reporter observed numerous foreign visitors and cross-border commuters drawn to the newly installed "communication marvel." Travelers tested the device by inputting questions via voice or camera, which instantly converted their queries into Chinese or their target language and delivered natural, real-time responses, ensuring smooth and barrier-free interactions.

Resembling a smartphone in size and weighing approximately 100 grams, the portable Wooask device combines convenience with advanced functionality. Tim, Sales Director of Shenzhen Wooask Technology Co., Ltd. (Wooask’s developer), explained that the device supports 144 online language pairs (including 70 accents) with internet connectivity, and 16 offline languages such as English, Russian, Korean, and French. Regular updates to its language database further enhance its versatility.

Hong Kong resident Liu Chun Kit, a daily commuter between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, became one of the first to test the device. He tried its English and Cantonese translation features and remarked, "This device significantly eases communication between Hong Kong residents and mainland citizens. It’s incredibly user-friendly!"

The deployment of Wooask devices addresses long-standing communication challenges while improving operational efficiency at the port. Wen Chi, a staff member at the Futian Port Management Service Center, noted that the consultation desk typically assists around 10 foreign travelers daily, with numbers surging during holidays. Previously, staff relied on mobile translation apps and basic English, which struggled with less common languages.

The Wooask device now streamlines interactions, particularly during peak hours, and is projected to increase clearance efficiency by 70%.

A representative from the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government Port Office emphasized that the initiative aims to create a "human-machine collaboration" model, reducing labor costs while delivering a faster, more convenient customs experience. "We are committed to elevating service quality and ensuring every traveler enjoys a thoughtful, seamless journey," the official stated.

Shenzhen’s ports plan to adopt more advanced translation device/technologies in the future, integrating devices with broader language coverage, enhanced accuracy, and support for additional accents. This effort aligns with the city’s vision to pioneer smart, traveler-centric infrastructure.
